From Keito → To Yuto
Because I like how Yuto looks in a suit, I wanted to produce him wearing a suit this time. Normally Yuto is used to wearing suits as costumes but, wouldn’t it be interesting to see pictures of him wearing a suit normally? For Yuto, even when he’s in the middle of a job his suit is neat and stylish, playing the part of an honest man leaves a strong impression so I deliberately wanted to destroy that image this time.
The situation for the photos starts from when business man Yuto gets home after finishing work. It was raining that day, and Yuto has finally made his way back to his own room. But, there are some really awful things going on in the human relations at work, it’s got so that even he can’t contain his desperation. His suit that was worn so neatly is crumpled, his tie is messy and lose, and his hair is tousled and wet from the rain. While looking at himself who has become such a mess, in the corner of the room he says something like “Won’t my life just end today”, it’s a miserable, sulking Yuto…
As for the concept, because I liked how Yuto looked wearing his suit in the “Pink and Grey” movie, I wanted to advance that and moreover see him grow into an adult in full agony, because that’s what I thought I wanted to try and show the readers.
As people grow, it follows that they begin to experience concerns they have never experienced before, and they sometimes feel like they don’t want to live anymore. Since I seriously turned Yuto’s honest image around, I got excited just thinking about what kind of expressions he would show this time (lol). The public’s image is the same as what I think of Yuto. Yuto is definitely direct in whatever he does, because he hates things that are round about he’s a person with great concentration. Obviously at work, anything he can do himself, he asks “Why am I doing this?” and with that understanding he does it without cutting corners. In concert rehearsals too, he’s the kind of person who only agrees to things after confirming them over and over again first.
But because he has that personality, there are also some concerns like “I wonder if there is ever a time when those walls will be broken?”. Because I think like that sometimes, like “I want to see broken hearted Yuto”, I got to express my “secret desire” (lol).
Compared to when we first debuted, I guess his interest in the people around him and the way he deals with them has changed. At the time he gave a “Because I am who I am” kind of impression but, watching Yuto over the years, he seems to have fun communicating with people and it feels like he has closed the distance between himself and others. Because he’s enthusiastic and curious he has a lot of hobbies, maybe that’s that same for everyone though. Because he seems to like observing people, he’s really good at impersonations and capturing people’s mannerisms. I think it’s helpful for his expressive skills as an actor.
Lately, we’ve had a lot of new staff members starting. If there is something they don’t know, they learn a lot from their senpai. When I became a member of JUMP, the one that played the role of that senpai for me was Yuto.
An episode from back then that I’ll never forget was, when I couldn’t remember a dance and I was helpless with worry, Yuto said to me “Dancing is easy. Because it’s not hard compared to playing an F cord on the guitar” (lol). Even now I can’t understand what he meant by it, it’s the kind of line that just leaves me confused (lol). Using a musical example for encouragement is typical of him I guess. And saying things that don’t really make sense it very Yutoesque (lol).
But, when I started playing the guitar Yuto was playing the drums so, things related to music gave me great encouragement. When I’d write band style songs, Yuto was the first one to look at them for me, so I think this strengthened our relationship.
Me and Yuto, the basic things that we think and do are different. When we’re talking at work we often say the complete opposite of each other too. Yuto said something like “I wish I could have a personality like Keito’s”, but because I feel the same it was really funny (lol). For example, if we went travelling overseas, he’s the type that would have everything properly planned out and would follow it exactly but, I’m the type that has no plan and it feels like I’ll end up going like pura- (lol). Because our personalities are the complete opposites, maybe that’s why we’re so fascinated by each other. Yuto has always been overflowing with a fascinating human kindness. But because he let me request a “11th anniversary image change”, from now on instead of just playing the role of another person I wanted him to show me himself completely exposed. Me and the members know that Yuto but, I don’t think the members know that part of Yuto yet.
