Yamada Ryosuke

When I suddenly came across some sneakers from overseas, that I can’t get in Japan, it was like destiny and it made my heart race. I bought them straight away. They have a great balance of black, white and pink, and they go with skinny jeans and wide pants. Until about a year ago the only thing I would wear was boots. But, sneakers also have a lot of variations, and I noticed that there are a pair to suit all kinds of situations, so now I have fun wearing both, and challenging different kinds of fashion.

Do I have confidence to make girls’ hearts race? In this line of work, it would be a big problem if I didn’t (lol). If we’re talking about my private life, well that’s a different story. As for what we provide to the fans, I have confidence that I can make their hearts race. This heart racing feeling becomes their power in ways I don’t know, I’m allowed to work in a really amazing job. Racing hearts make people grow, if I’m able to work on the providing side of this, then I think that I have to polish myself to become a unique individual.

I think people who can get engrossed in their work or hobbies are amazing, whether they’re a guy or a girl. My hobby is gaming. When I travel for work I and take something along, can I take Chinen? (lol). Even in the middle of film or drama shooting, I do it without taking the role into my private life at all. So that I can take a proper break, it’s best that I lose myself in my games.

Which member is good at getting the girls’ hearts racing?

Yamada Ryosuke

Everyone has their own high potential but, this is probably still me right? (lol) Because in my position there are a lot of scenes where my lines make the girls’ hearts race.

Arioka Daiki

Since I’ve loved looking at graffiti art for a long time, lately, I drew it myself for the first time when I went to my friend’s house. We tried stuff like spraying the spray over a barbeque mesh and seeing what kind of patterns it made. It’s different to drawing with a pen or a brush, the distance of the spray and the speed that you move your hand changes the lines, it was hard but, it was really fun. Since the start of this year I’ve had unexpectedly few “first experiences” so, it was fun feeling like I had stepped into a new world.

The only time that I flick the switch and feel like “I want to make hearts race”, the only time is during concerts. The mums and dads that come along even though they have no interest in us, I think I want to become someone who “If they notice me they can’t look away” to them too, so I’ll do my best. And then, since we have a lot of members, I think it would be nice if the girls that like the other members start to think “Ah, that Arioka is alright too”, if I get the chance, I have a wicked heart (lol). Normally, rather than wanting to make their hearts race, I’m the type that often feels like I want to make them have fun, or make them happy. Supposing, there were a person that I thought was nice, I guess it’s someone who listens carefully to a conversation and looks at their partner properly. I seem to get a lot of inspiration from a girl that gets passionate about her work or hobbies, I think it’s fantastic. But, if the one they’re obsessed with is a pet, maybe I’ll hate it. Coz, I feel like I’ll end up being lonely (lol). So anything but animals please!

Which member is good at getting the girls’ hearts racing?

Takaki Yuya

I mean it in a good way but, he has the ideal image of “this is what a man should be” and he seems to read girls. He’s casually concerned and I think he could be an escort! On the other hand, Ino-chan has a slyness (lol).

Which member is bad at getting the girls’ hearts racing?

Chinen Yuri

Because right now, right before my eyes while I’m doing this interview he’s doing some ridiculous dance (lol). He is “The Herbivorous Man”, he doesn’t think “I want to make the girls’ hearts race”, does he?

Chinen Yuri

Every day is fulfilling but, in private, maybe I don’t really get into that “heart racing” state. But, because that “heart racing” feeling is something that comes on naturally, I think it’s fine not to intentionally go out looking for it. The soccer world cup got me worked up but, that was more of an exciting feeling than a “heart racing” one. The greatness of the fights in big plays or the interest of not knowing what is going to happen, or again in sports, it feels great. Even being allowed to work as a presenter for the “World Gymnastics Championships 2018”, it’s great that I can share this excitement with everyone.

Until now, the time that has felt the most heart racing, is as you’d except when I found Johnny’s. Because even now, watching Arashi, and doing all those things that I thought I wanted to do, it’s still all connected. Only that gets my heart racing, that’s the only time. Because I’ve experienced the same thing myself I understand the difficulty but, that happiness-like feeling that I had before is becoming even bigger.

Making girls hearts race as an idol, is not something that I’m good at. I leave this up to the people that are good at it, and I do things naturally just as I am, and if there are people that feel something from this then I’m happy. I think girls that have their hearts racing about something are great. I don’t have a hobby so, I’m jealous of people that have fun being engrossed in the things that they like. If that person were my girlfriend, and she said “Will you come do my hobby together with me?” Yeah, maybe I’d be happy watching her having fun.

Which member gets surprisingly engrossed in things?

Nakajima Yuto

He’s passionate about all kinds of things and the fact the he can love things completely is amazing. It’s like even people who don’t know anything about cameras don’t want to talk to him about it in detail (lol), I respect this level of passion.

Inoo Kei

I turned 28 in June, and it made my heart race that so many people celebrated my birthday for me. I’ve started to think that I hate the idea of getting older but, being told “Happy Birthday” and getting presents made me happy. I was reminded that, I’m the type of person that want’s to properly celebrate other people’s birthdays too.

If a girl’s heart races for me, I’ll be really happy. But, I have no confidence at all. In dramas and filming I do my best in these kinds of scenes but, normally it’s impossible!  Unless I read a book with “Please do this” written in it, it’s really hard I think (lol). On the other hand, the thing I like is, people who get engrossed in their hobbies. Especially, if their hobby is different to my own I’ll be curious like “What’s this?”, and I think I’ll definitely want to hear all about it. Whether they’re a boy or a girl, I can learn a lot from people who know about things that I don’t, and it’s interesting that my world is slowly widening. And then, if someone said “I love you” to me out of the blue, I think it would make my heart throb. I love surprises.

Lately, the thing I’ve been engrossed in is health and beauty. Since 30-year-old me is coming into view, I’m investing in the me I’ll be when I turn that age, I think that I want to look out for him. And also acting! Performing is fun and I’ll be happy if I can perform as many roles as I can. I’m in my 20s so, there are characters I can play now that I want to challenge.  I’m aiming for something like a new office worker whose boss is always mad at him.

Which member gets surprisingly engrossed in things?

Arioka Daiki

His “Avengers” obsessed side is incredible. I respect the way that he analysis the feelings of the characters. If I had the power, I would make Dai-chan a member of the Avengers.

Takaki Yuya

Recently, I’m into this moonlight ornament that I got from Arioka. I had it in my dressing room for the entire time during the play, when it’s in my room I turn off the lights and gaze at it shining. It’s really healing. Since I’ve loved globes of the earth for a long time, I’m the type that’s also attracted to astronomical things. Maybe my feeling that I want to go and see them in all kinds of different places has appeared. And then, when I hear the music that I like, the feeling that “I want to listen to this song forever” swells up inside me, and my heart throbs in my chest. It’s a feeling something like “one step away from love” (lol). Movies too, I love ones with good soundtracks. I like a lot of love stories but, in particular the one I like best is “The Holiday”. It’s a movie that lets you experience that heart racing feeling, it’s fun.

Whether they’re a man or a woman, I have confidence that I can get people’s hearts racing. Since I was old enough to be aware of it, I’ve been popular with people I think (lol). They say that there are three times in one’s life when people will fall in love with you but, it seems like my first time is going to continue all the way through until my life ends (lol). I’m joking, probably, I think it’s because I also like people a lot myself. Because I want to close the distance between myself and others straight away, in a non-romantic way, I think the other person also starts to think “I like myself”, and we can become good friends. But, now, the thing I’m most engrossed in is work. This year, I had fun doing the play, and I’ve noticed it’s been full of things that I’ve never challenged before. I even want to try something like walking down a runway as a model! The feeling that I want new work to make my heart race won’t stop.

Which member is good at getting the girls’ hearts racing?

Okamoto Keito

Because he lived in England when he was a kid, I think he’s a guy that has mastered the English Gentleman’s ladies first ways. But, even I could do that though (lol).

Which member is bad at getting the girls’ hearts racing?

Yabu Kota

Because, when he was allowed to appear with “KissMai BUSAIKU!?” on “27 Hour Television”, he was so lame (lol). I can still remember it now!

Okamoto Keito

Since I was a child I have been surrounded by all kinds of different music, so as you’d expect its music that has that heart racing feeling. Like rock, and lately jazz… and I like songs from musicals too, there’s quite a wide range of genres. Because I started playing guitar about 10 years ago, depending on the genre the scale and position you play in are different, the way you play changes the way that it sounds, it’s fun learning about this too. Lately, the thing that gets my heart racing the most is a machine that tunes the guitar it’s self since it’s hard to tune it by hand. I was a little expensive but, now every time I use it my heart races (lol).

And then, I also like reading Shakespeare’s plays in English. They use a different phrasing to the way people talk now but, that sound and rhythm are great, and give it a romantic feeling. Moreover, Shakespeare right, even though it’s the same play, depending on which viewpoint the director takes the way the show is done is completely different, it changes the impression it has after you’ve seen it. I think this is interesting too.

My confidence in fan service… I think I go around to answer the fans feelings but, if it’s about properly making their hearts race, I probably can’t do it. Really I’m just showing them myself having fun.

Getting engrossed in something, I think it’s great to have intention and an objective. I get excited about my hobbies like these kinds of people. That never-ending feeling of nothing but “I like it”, if I can connect with this feeling from now on, that would be even greater.

Which member is bad at getting the girls’ hearts racing?

Chinen Yuri

He’s the same age as me but, when we’re together, I feel like I want to protect him. Because he has a little brother kind of vibe, I can’t even imagine Chinen doing something that would make the girls’ hearts race.

Nakajima Yuto

The other day, Keito recommended a jazz manga compilation album called “BLUE GIANT” to me. Since me and Keito both listen to jazz a lot. All the songs they had compiled were really trendy and it got my heart racing in my chest for the first time in a long time. In the compiled songs I especially like the one called “Around Midnight” from the pianist Selonius Monk who I first learnt about from the “La La Land” movie. I listen to it a lot when I want to calm my heart.

My confidence to make girls’ hearts race… I’ve got enough I guess (lol). I’m the sensitive type so, I think I’m the type that can meet the girls’ expectations. In the concerts I think I want to answer the wishes the girls have written on their uchiwas as much as I can. On the other hand, the thing that gets my heart racing, is girls that are always changing their hairstyle. It’s great that people with long hair have so much variation. Tying it up loosely with stray hairs coming out, or puling it all back tightly. I think showing different expressions through their hair style is a woman’s privilege.

From now on the thing I want to bring my passion to, is showing a different face from my one as an idol in my acting and modelling work. Since working as an actor is like playing a game of catch with people, no matter how many times over we rehearse, it’s fun because it’s not limited to become the same picture as the real thing. When I’m being photographed as a model I keep in mind the idea that the staff “want to throw them all away” when they are choosing the final cut. It’s an exciting feeling like “I wonder which one will be chosen” or it’s become a habit that I’m shocked when they choose a surprising picture.

Which member is bad at getting the girls’ hearts racing?

Yaotome Hikaru

Hikaru-kun, often messes up what he’s saying. So, even if he comes up with a line that will seem to make the girls happy, it seems like he’ll end up stuffing up at the crucial moment (lol). But this is one of the cute things about him.

Which member gets surprisingly engrossed in things?

Yabu Kota

In “Itadaki High JUMP’s” Breaking the Rules is OK! corner, when he was playing the game he had his eyes peeled, and nostrils flaring, he looked like a demon, I can never forget this face even now (lol).

Yaotome Hikaru

I’m normally pretty gloomy. I don’t say much, and have a quiet voice… I’m definitely not someone that will make your heart race (lol). I don’t know what to do to make hearts race in the first place. Even in the concerts, I only answer what the fans have written on their uchiwas like “wink” or “blow a kiss” but, if that can make their hearts race then… I think it would be nice if they could be excited by this gap from regular, gloomy me, that’s my wish.

Speaking of things that get your heart racing, for me, I really love cups. It started a long time ago, when I seriously chose a tea cup to buy and bring home with me from Kyoto, and over the years I’ve collected them. I drink a lot of water at home, and since I like coffee and herbal tea too, it’s fun how you can change the feeling. I have ones with characters on them, and ones that were collaborations from my favourite singers or artists, and ones that make the drinks taste good or taste weak too. So, it got my heart racing when I was allowed to make the “Hika-chan Mug Cup” as goods for the play recently. It’s got a stained glass rose design, with a swan’s feather on the bottom. I was allowed to be quite particular about it so, it was fun right from the planning stage.

If there’s something that I think I want to keep learning about forever then, it’s bass I guess. There are some amazing bassists in the World like Marcus Miller and Flea, their technique to create impressionable bass lines is incredible. Because you can play instruments even when you get old, if I play all my life it would be nice if I could come close to their skills.

Which member gets surprisingly engrossed in things?

Nakajima Yuto

The way that he gets completely absorbed in his cameras is amazing. Normally, he has these professional lenses and stuff, and lugs two cameras around on a strap, I’m like “Is that really necessary?”. But he gets great photos in the end.

Yabu Kota

As you know, I love “One Piece”. I’ve been reading it ever since it first started being published in Weekly Shonen JUMP but, especially now, it’s really interesting. Characters that I saw when I was a child are coming back into the story, remembering how I felt back then gets me so worked up! Even now I never miss reading a single Weekly Shonen JUMP but, because I’m too curious about the continuing stories I start to get antsy the day before it’s released (lol).

My confidence to make girl’s hearts race, I have none at all! If I think a girl is cute then I’ll want to tell her she’s cute straight away, I’m the type that wants to express my feelings straight out so, I can’t think and then act on things to make a girl happy. Maybe I’ll want to give her a surprise but, I think it’d definitely be a flop. Even if I put a lot of effort into hanging decorations, I have absolutely no sense for those kinds of things (lol). The heart racing thing about girls is, the moment they instantly go from their social smile back to their normal face. For example, the moment when the smiling waitress loses sight of the customers she just said goodbye to, her face becomes serious right? (lol). I love that one second of exposure.

Lately, the ones that always make my heart race are my 3-year-old and 1-year-old nephews. They love Hey! Say! JUMP and my brother sent me a video of them singing “Give Me Love” at karaoke but, they’re so freaking cute. But when I went to play with them just before, my 3-year-old nephew who’s always saying “Kou-chan, Kou-chan” said to me “Hey, where’s Yamada?”. I was sooo shocked! (lol)

Which member is good at getting the girls’ hearts racing?

Yamada Ryosuke

Because he rolls his face with a face roller, he has a high feminie power so, he seems to understand that “if I do this it will make the girls happy”. If it’s Yamada then I definitely think he would even notice when a girl changes her make up a little.
