A.B.C-Z Yakusoku Lyric Translation

This is my other favourite B-side off the single. It’s so sad and beautiful. It’s a song about a relationship that had to end and all the promises that the couple have made. I love how it quotes what the girl has said and how Ebi feel about it. It’s almost like a conversation.

Original Japanese: Utaten

English Translation

“Farewells are a new start” That’s what you said to me

So many memories turned into invisible scars and I pick at the scabs

I hate talking about “what ifs” but what if I had been honest at that time

“Be kinder to the next girl” You said it as a joke, it’s not what I wanted to hear

I forced a smile through my teary eyes Thank-you We’re off on different paths

“Don’t only count the sad times” That’s what you said to me

I imagine the future but not matter what I see you are there beside me and I worry

I walk alone on the road we used to walk holding hands I bury my right hand in my pocket like a lost child

“There’s definitely another girl out there for you” You said as you averted your eyes, it’s a habit you have when you lie

You pass through the ticket gate and I wave to you in hope that there will be another promise to make you

“Good morning” “Good night”

These casual conversations

“I love you” “I love you too”

As we held each other

The things we vowed to each other lift my chest… My heart

“Be kinder to the next girl” You said it as a joke but I it’s not what I wanted to hear

I forced a smile through my teary eyes Thank-you We’re off on different paths

Don’t cry I promise Don’t forget me I promise

We won’t look back That was our last promise

I force a smile through my teary eyes

Be well Be well

Ha… Promise
